Oct 06, New Delhi: Several leading companies around the world are borrowing heavily to stay ahead in the artificial intelligence race, with the sudden shift rattling US markets.
The borrowing binge by some of the world's richest companies has sent repercussions across financial markets. Rising US interest rates, including on Treasury bonds that anchor the global economy, are sending tremors through the financial world, with some analysts blaming the surge in AI-related borrowing.
Tech sector borrowing for AI has reached around $500 billion in the nine months since January, as Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft and others raise debt at a rapid pace to finance the chips, servers and data centres that power AI.
