1620 Danish Ship Model Donated to Tharangambadi Maritime Museum

A model of the Danish warship 'Elephant' has been donated to the Maritime Museum in Tharangambadi (formerly Tranquebar), Tamil Nadu. The ship was part of a Danish fleet that landed at Tharangambadi in 1620, marking an early European attempt to establish trade links with South Asia. The fleet consisted of two warships and three merchant ships.

The 'Elephant' was one of the vessels in the expedition that aimed to secure trading rights and establish a Danish presence in the region. Tharangambadi subsequently became a Danish colony, serving as a key trading post for over two centuries. The model donation underscores the enduring historical connection between Denmark and India.
